Day One

Today kicked off our Active schools week with visitor coach James Scott from FAI coming to our school to complete two workshops. The children had a ball. Thank you to James for freely giving up his time today and giving the children such an enjoyable evening.

Day two

We continued with DEAR ( Drop everything and run ) and welcomed Joanne Quinn, yoga and drama teacher, to our school. Both classes benefited so much and really enjoyed their classes. They learned about the development of yoga in India, some postures and poses and has great fun and games doing so.

Day 3

We had GAA with Kevin Nolan to practise skills and game play.

Day 4

Mr O brien did fun running activities with all classes and teachers. Despite the rain trying to spoil our fun, we had great fun.

In the evening, the school joined forces with our local GAA club to host an evening based on Healthy eating for active living. The first part of the evening welcomed John Meagher, Liam Treacy and Lorraine Bourke all past pupils And all have or are playing county level as well as playing for their club. We covered looking after our bodies in relation to sleep, foods, recovery, training etc. The panel spoke about their own experiences in sport and Audrey had fun activities lined up for us all.

The second part of the evening welcomed Anna McElhinney, eatwise nutritionist to speak about foods we eat, sugar content, ideas for lunches and snacks and recommended dietary choices.

We also had special visitors arrive to the school. Henry & Ciara Cummins of Irelands fittest family fame visited the school and to say the children were excited would be an understatement. The children had lots of amazing questions for them and set big challenges for them. Henry & Ciara were a delight to have in the school and we had a brilliant time with them.
